This can vary greatly depending on the photographer - anywhere from £300 - £1000

It really depends on where you live and what you are looking for. I am a photographer, and my price is $1000 for 3 hours on location, and that includes a copyrighted CD and some other extras, depending on the couple's needs. I have seen much higher pricing, but not much lower. I would search the internet, i.e. google, for "wedding photographers ..." and then add your local area after the "photographers." Take a look at some of the websites that come up and see what you like and what is in your budget. I am sure you could find something that you will be happy with--there are a lot of great photographers with great prices, you just have to find them!

Depends on the area. In NYC it might be several thousand, but in Biloxi Missippi, it is probably less than two thousand. In San Diego, where I live, packages range from $1500 to $4000, on average, some higher, some even less.

The cost of wedding photography is directly related to the talent and reliability of the photographer, and the location the photography is needed. There are so many factors, that an average would be impossible to really quote logically.

And expert wedding photographer will cost upwards of $2,000, just to attend and photograph the wedding, without any prints purchased.

Someone who shoots weddings for fun might charge $500 for a disk of images, but those images probably won't be the high-end images people tend to think about when they think wedding photography.

Location definitly has a part to play in the cost of a wedding photographer. The part of NY I am from, the "best" photgrapher in the area was $1500 plus the cost of prints. Down here in Atlanta, the cheapest crappy photographer is $1500.

When you are choosing a photographer, you are going to have to meet with several photographers. Initial cost will be a factor but look at what they include and look at the pictures they take and then ASK FOR REFERENCES. Ask to speak with several past brides and grooms. The photographer who did my sister's wedding had a "good portfolio" and price but he isnt the one who showed up to do her wedding, he sent an assistant, who didnt take alot of the pictures that were requested.

As a professional photographer I remember on starting out in 1966 that a wedding album cost £21-10s in smalltown Ireland, , that included your usual white coved album with twenty 8 x 6 ( roughly 'full plate') B&W photos. the photographer probably took 36 photos on a C-135 roll or two rolls of 120 more usually , 24 photos in all.
And they were better quality back then , usually, as the photographer had his shots carefully worked out in advance and had the time to take them well, not like your digital photographer of today rushing hectically from 200 to 2000 shots out on the day,
The photographer wasn't hanging around and taking up so much of your time either. He arrived at the church half an hour before the wedding, did the church shots, then to the hotel, the prescribed family group shots there - BEFORE any alcoholic drink. He then took the bride and groom aside and shot a mock-up of them 'cutting' the wedding cake while all the guests headed for the hotel bar.
He went home, quickly developed and printed 'enprints', came back to the hotel and showed them with PROOF stamped on them, showed them to the guests who wanted to see them and took extra orders for photos over and above those set for the album ( he might have carried a separate camera to do those).

He didn't wait to attend the reception. 3/4 hours work in all.

Then colour photography came in, around 1970 for weddings and the price went up to 40-50 pounds in order to pay the colour laboratory to do the work.
He has no such costs today , it's all 'up front' on his digital equipment.

Now, prices of cameras in 1966 as compared to today? That's a hard one so I'll compare a Nikon F then with suitable lenses ( about £250) as against a Canon 40D today with suitable lenses ( babout £1500) so increased six, so let's say seven times.

So, at £300 today , say to take 50 shots on digital, no album, CD only , that would be fair. Ordinary album with twenty 10 X 8 printed photos mounted should cost £400 extra, the more expensive leather-covered dtyled albums more, up to £ 300 more for an Italian designed album.

That's £1000 in all.
Then he could provide a nice framed 16X20 of the favourite photo the bride wants for, say, £250 more.

£1250

And he could make more, if he wants to ( I will take my time and only do that) by shooting on a second camera for the guests orders that they would pay for and that the bride & Groom wouldn't have to pay for , the sky is the limit!
Let's say he takes another £500 at this ( that would be minimum on any sizeable wedding , he should make a lot more)

£1750 total price. we'll say. He should quite easily make a grand out of that , allowing for depreciation etc which is important.

So, you are going to have a very basic wedding rate from £300 ( for the photographer who likes to work casual and local ) with fifty photos taken and supplied on CD/DVD/Bluetooth ( a bit extra) to £1750 for the luxury job where the photographer works like a "Jack-in-the-Box"!

- whatever that is in dollars, maybe 750 more on current rates , so, say, $2500 dollars ?
